It took 10 years for Apple to go from 0 (almost) to $229B, $3B ahead of Microsoft. TechCrunch reports that for the last five years, Microsoft’s stock has been stagnant (up about 4%) and Apple’s stock, is up some 550% over that same time frame.
Graphical user interfaces are full of symbols. Symbols need to be reduced to their essence. This helps avoid cluttering the user interface with meaningless distractions, and makes it easier for people to «read» the symbol and figure out the meaning of an interface element. It’s funny because I started playing Half-Life 2 recently (on Windows). I never played the game when it came out in 2004. Still, it’s amazing; graphics, ambiance, level design, animations, gameplay, everything is perfect. You can sure tell that a lot of recent games took their inspiration from it.
