Today, Google announced a research technology that aims to run native code on the web. Well, I can’t wait to see the outcome of this research but it seems to me that we’re reinventing something here; desktop computing, downloadable native apps, what’s the difference?

Well, we'll see how it can be used and what kind of API they provide. I've seen Quake running in the samples, so I guess there is a sort of “framebuffer” API.
We're also looking for a way to accelerate movie generation using the user CPU but it's not that easy. Even with a plugin there will be a lot of data to transfer to the client in order to render anything — so for now, the best is to download an app.
We'll see what Google come up with.
