For it’s 10th birthday, Google brought back their oldest available index (January 2001).

Most of the sites we now take for granted didn’t exist back then but sadly, lots of things don’t exist anymore.

The web — ephemeral by nature — is eroding pretty fast. What should be saved and what shouldn’t? What information would have survived in 100 years or 500 years?

We still don’t have an answer to this problem.
