That may be so but when will it be released for windows users and not mac. I upgraded my iphone by accident and I can’t unlock or downgrade the firmware can you help?
deggo12 August 08 at 7:43 am
I don’t know when they would release a Windows version. Don’t you know someone who has a Mac, that will be an easy solution.
Frederic Brunel12 August 08 at 10:40 am
No I don’t, but I did find a solution. I used Winpwn, it worked but a few hours later iTunes told me to restore again so I did. And all I got was “iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored an unknown error ocurred (1604)” and it just will not restore whatever I try, do you know of any solution to this, sorry for being a pain.

I’m really sorry, since I hadn’t the problem myself, I can’t recommend any other solution.

Your iPhone will be completely wiped out but everything can be restored from the backup.

However, I'd rather not restored from the backup from now as it used to cause some trouble (with Ziphoned iPhones).

You will lose everything that's not in iTunes (e.g., notes, sms, preferences).

Hey I have had an iphone for 1 year, I am going to Brasil and want to have a local sim card on my phone. I know how to unlock with Ziphone. But if I do it now, am I going to lose my data? When I am back to US am I going to be able to go back to my regular 917 number? Is this something that Apple can legally act against an iphone user? Please advise. Thanks!
Clara 27 October 08 at 1:49 pm
You don't have to lose you data. Before updating your iPhone, iTunes makes a backup that is restored after the process.
Fred Brunel28 October 08 at 9:38 pm
Hi, I just upgraded from 1.1.4 to 2.0.1 using Quickpwn and my phone is successfully unlocked and jailbroken. However, I need to restore my phone from my backup on itunes to get back my contacts, text mesgs, etc. I'm afraid of bricking my phone if I restore my phone. Is there a safe way so that I can restore my phone yet continue to use 2.0.1? Please help me as I am currently without any of my contacts. Thanks.
Thakker3 November 08 at 1:43 am
Well, to get back your contacts you just need to sync them back using iTunes. It's the normal procedure but you won't get your SMS back; you need to restore your backup for that (that said, it might be too late as you have probably setup a new phone from iTunes).
Restoring backup is safe (read working) since Pwnage, if you used another method to hack your 1.1.4, your backup might not be usable.
In any case, you won't never brick your iPhone. If something goes wrong, restore it back to the custom firmware you made with PwnageTool.
Fred Brunel3 November 08 at 1:50 am
Now, I tried to 'restore from backup' by right-clicking on my phone's logo on itunes. It restored from backup but nothing really got restored except what I had after I upgraded to 2.0.1. When I check under edit > preferences> devices, it says my last backup was taken on Oct 16th which means it should still have my data. Any idea why it isn't restoring that data?
Also, if I restore to factory settings, do you think it would give me back my previous data? With that however, what happens to my jailbreak and unlock? How do I restore it to the custom firmware with pwanage?
(I use windows and do not have pwnage on my computer. I used somebody's mac to upgrade to 2.0.1 thinking I do have a backup on my computer) Please help me as I'm in dire need of my contacts, notes, etc..
Thakker4 November 08 at 12:36 am
It is safe to reset your iPhone to factory settings, it won't lock it back. It would simply erase the data on your phone.
You could then try to restory the backup.

iPhone Backup Extractor might be useful as well,
