Amazon was down for about 2 hours today. Customers got an unfriendly “Http/1.1 Service Unavailable” message when attempted to use the site.

Based on last quarter’s revenue of $4.13 billion globally, a full-scale global outage would cost Amazon more than $31,000 per minute on average.

That’s a pretty expensive issue. With Twitter, Plurk, Disqus, The Planet or other suffering outages lately, it’s like a new trend.
