The release of the iPhone SDK, a couple of weeks ago, has raised a lots of attention especially amongs developers, attracted by the quality of the platform as well as by the business model of the App Store.
After having some discussion about mobile projects on Twitter, Heri from Montreal Tech Watch started the Mobile Developer Meetup initiative that will take place this afternoon (17:30) at Station C, the co-working place in Montreal.
The objective is really to meet people interested in doing mobile projects and have an open discussion about the current technologies trends in that area.
I’m very glad to see that much people motivated to make things happen in Montreal (for me, that’s a completely different ambiance from Bordeaux in France). We had a lots of great events for 1 year and I think this one could be the start of something really interesting.
I’ve been working in the mobile industry for about 5 years, but it’s only in 2008 that technology is enough appealing for building killer applications.
UPDATE (23-03-08): You can read a brief report of the meeting on Montreal Tech Watch.

Fred,
Different ambiance? Bordeaux and Montreal are different : The Bordeaux area is 700,000 people vs the (almost) 4,000,000 of the Greater Montreal Area. Weather, ocean, wine, etc… I know this does not explain (completely) why people would not be motivated in Bordeaux. Plus if motivated ones leave Bordeaux for Montreal (like you ;-)), the ambiance won’t improve.
Perhaps we (in Bordeaux) need to federate companies working in the Mobile Software Industry (like they did in the Video Game Industry http://www.bordeauxgames.com/), and establish partnerships with the Computer Science University.
bye, David
Hey, I live in Bordeaux and I have started to evaluate the iPhone SDK and really believe in this mobile platform. Maybe these same feelings are related to our common background in Bordeaux
Of course, no “Mobile Developer Meetup” in Bordeaux, for now…
Say hello to all the old-Bordelais Montréalais…
Tchao, Fred.
