I recently though about a different perspective concerning the Apple/Intel deal. I guess that Apple won’t move all its computers to Intel processors.

You probably know it but the G5 is a very good processor. It’s so good that Microsoft chose it over Intels for the new Xbox 360 console. The Cell processor of the Sony PS3 is based on the same PowerPC architecture than of the G5. That probably means something. Why Apple is moving the opposite direction when years of patience finally pays?

Actually Apple didn’t talk about moving the entire line of computers they just talk about using Intel chips. If you look at the Intel roadmap, what’s really interesting is their low-comsumption line of processors not their high-end line.

That’s exactly what’s missing to Apple — Steve Jobs told it — they need powerful but low-comsumption and cooler processors. It’s very likely that Apple will only use Intel CPUs — mono and dual-cores — for laptops and Mac minis but will keep G5 for all desktop computers. The recent announce of IBM about the availability of a dual-core G5 make this scenario even more probable.
