I initially started this blog to gain some experience with web publishing and web technologies and I didn’t used to post regularly. But for a couple of month, I’m being more motivated by writing. So I decided to move forward by upgrading this site.
Blogger was an easy way to start publishing on the Internet but is limited in terms of customization and blogging features. I wanted to use another one. There is a lot of blogging engine out there and I took my time to get one. I’ll finally go with Wordpress, it is very well supported by the community, got tons of interesting plug-ins and good documentation. I’ve started to play with it and it’s good. But acutally, my current ISP is very slow with databases, especially at key hours in the days so I’ve to change that as well–and use the domain name I got 6 month ago.
As for blogging engines, hosting companies are like mushrooms in the forest, there are a plenty of them, not easy to choose. The Wordpress team recommended some companies but I finally decided to go with A2Hosting. They’re located in US — and I’m in France — in Detroit, Michigan. Their hosting plans are good and they’re also offering a VPS plan that will interest me in the future. VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. It’s a virtual server that you can administer yourself so you can run your own software on it. It is virtual because it runs on the same big computer using virtualization software like VMware. I’ll first go with their standard hosting plan for website, pricing a 9.95$ per month, just to see if the support and service is good. You can already jump to the new location.
