Podcasting is in the light. Apple made it available for everybody as easy as buying a song from the music store. I’ve been surprised about it because I’ve actually discovered the word “Podcasting” only a couple of month ago when I downloaded a keynote speech of Paul Graham from IT Conversations.

There is no tech behind Podcasts, just downloading audio from the Internet. But what’s interesting though is that it follows the same pattern as for blogs. In 1994, virtually everybody was able to publish content on the net but I took more than 5 years before somebody starts something called a weblog. Nobody noticed at the time that the Internet is really a free place where you can bypass any other media.

We started with text, we now comes to the radio. Actually I’ve never liked radio because you can’t choose content; I’m also fed up with the ads. Podcasts are the opposite, you’re free to listen what you wish and with Apple’s turnkey solution, you can really enjoy it.

I’ve just scratched the surface of this sphere and it’s really huge, I didn’t realize how popular it is. Even if I was quite sceptical at the beginning, I now found it great to be able to listen to my favourite topics while doing something else and not to get stuck on a web site.

I’m amazed to see how fast Apple jumped on the hype and how many geek stuff they made available to the masses. Anyway, I’ll start playing with iTunes podcasts by tonite.
