Like a lot of Apple geeks, I’ve bought the lastest version of the iLife suite this week-end. Just 49$ in France, I think it worth the price even if I don’t use all the tools.
Actually, I bought the update just for iPhoto which is quite faster than the previous version (and for god sake, it don’t use all the memory), no doubt about that. There are some interesting features like “smart lists”, “date ordering” and some UI polish but nothing really exciting… It works well and that’s good enough.
Concerning GarageBand I’m not so enthousiast about it. The application loads the CPU a lot and even if there is not glitch in the sound don’t expect to do something else. The loops are not really designed to be used standalone and you have to compose your main track yourself to be able to produce some interesting stuff. I didn’t had the same fun I had with the eJay music tools maybe because I’m not fond of the genre of the GarageBand loops, but I suppose you have to buy the JamPack to get something different.
Anyway, GarageBand looks great and I didn’t find any major bugs. Apple sure hit the ground with this first version and I’m sure that the next versions will be better and faster.
