I’ve finally upgraded my Mac with the latest release of MacOS X codenamed Panther. Apple is really pushing user to upgrade and I think it worth the try. I won’t go into another review of the system since every Mac site has an article about that. I would only sum up my fresh experience into three points.
- Easy and reliable update of your current system. You don’t have to worry about your datas and preferences, the installer takes care of everything. So, I put the first CD, clicked on “Install MacOS X” and… 25 minutes laters, I was playing with Panther, all my preferences were there. Perfect.
- The system runs slighty faster and some apps like Mail or Preview have really gained a performance boost.
- Exposé is the feature.
That said, I’m not very enthousiastic with the new Finder look & feel, maybe I have to get used to. I think the alt-tab feature doesn’t work the way it should. It propose all the active applications even if they don’t have an active windows. But except that, I don’t have anything bad to say, the whole system is more polished and simply beautiful. Amazing work!
