The Panther BoxI’ve finally upgraded my Mac with the latest release of MacOS X codenamed Panther. Apple is really pushing user to upgrade and I think it worth the try. I won’t go into another review of the system since every Mac site has an article about that. I would only sum up my fresh experience into three points.

  1. Easy and reliable update of your current system. You don’t have to worry about your datas and preferences, the installer takes care of everything. So, I put the first CD, clicked on “Install MacOS X” and… 25 minutes laters, I was playing with Panther, all my preferences were there. Perfect.
  2. The system runs slighty faster and some apps like Mail or Preview have really gained a performance boost.
  3. Exposé is the feature.

That said, I’m not very enthousiastic with the new Finder look & feel, maybe I have to get used to. I think the alt-tab feature doesn’t work the way it should. It propose all the active applications even if they don’t have an active windows. But except that, I don’t have anything bad to say, the whole system is more polished and simply beautiful. Amazing work!
