Blaster is the brand new virus plaguing the Internet for a month. Who is really to blame for that? The virus authors of course and Microsoft, which is selling vulnerable products. But it’s too easy. I think ISPs are also to blame because for 5 years, they’ve just let Mr John Doe connecting the Internet without talking about risks.
We’re all paying for this lack of information because maybe only 1 computer out of 10 is protected using a personnal firewall. Using the Internet is like driving your car on the highway, you’ve to be trained to protect yourself. This is the job of the ISP to help Mr John Doe protect his machine and make him aware of security updates of its operating system.
Future virus will all be Blaster-like, the authors don’t care about users personal datas, their mission is to capture enough machines to launch massive attacks against vital computers on the Internet.
In this sad story, Microsoft has done its job, a security fix has been release two month ago but too few people were aware of the threat.
