Last week, I’ve bought an iMac G4 1Ghz. This is my first Mac since I’m from the PC world but with a solid background with legendary machines like the Commodore Amiga and the Atari ST. This new machine reminds me the early days of personal computing when there was a lot fun and love about your computer. The iMac is just beautiful and the new MacOS X is quite interesting.
I’ve been using GNU/Linux on x86 for years now, and I like the Unix philosophy but I’m just fed up with the bloated PC hardware. This machine is just fresh air!
With MacOS X, Apple is putting on stage again what they’ve done with NeXT. Because of GNU/Linux and the Open Source (Free Software) movement, Unix is more popular than ever and it’s a real weapon against Microsoft. A lot of developers are just switching to MacOS X or to Apple hardware running GNU/Linux. I think this is a good news.
